Hi, we have just returned from Bali. A quick trip to cover our honeymoon memories some 15 years ago, along with two children this time. Bali has changed very much in terms of its tourism numbers and economic consequences. We stayed in Legian only 1 night, longing to see Candi Dasa again (last time was the same). Taking along just two photo's we were able to establish 'Natia'- now 'Grand Natia' (now 4 star) and our memories are happily renewed. Thanks for the website l located it from Grand Natia's business card- they are having like many others a very hard time at the moment-lack of tourists. l highly recommend Candi Dasa and Grand Natia, thanks again Susan and Steven.

Hi,
I'm using one of your pics for a project of mine. It's the best one of the temple at Lotus Cafe on the entire net. I haven't even got a pic of it, even though I've been 10 times to Ubud & consider it my 2nd home. I even remember when there was a duck pond & lots of rice fields in the Monkey Forest Rd. I am an IT project manager who has been affected by the downturn & I am currently a mature age art student. My project is 'the time box' and has to be a 3D screen print. I am doing an 'empty Lotus Cafe' to show how things change over time. I have used graphics to turn your pic into a sketch & I've enlarged it drastically and traced it on to acetate. I think this project mat be toooo ambitious...but you never know.

Hi there
I stumbled across your website whilst looking up Elephant Plains Game Reserve and thanks to your comments I have booked to stay there for two nights in early March. Your website is really inspiring! My boyfriend and I have jacked in our jobs and are off a on RTW trip on the 7th March 2003 and recently I have been feeling really nervous about the trip and have been wondering whether we are doing the right thing. Since reading your website I am now convinced that it is an experience that I must not miss out on and your stories have given me a real thirst to see these things for myself. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share your adventure with all of us – may you have many more! With love Beth

Hi Martha & Lon - finally got around to looking at your website and wish we had done before now - it's so well done. Marcus got a surprise to see himself appear on the computer! We're all well here and getting organised to return to London mid-July. Leave the apartment here on 1st July and spending 1 week on Tioman Island and the final 2 nights in KL. I'm very sad to be leaving but the long holiday must come to an end and its back to reality. I expect you're feeling much the same by now as your trip is almost ended. You've seal our decision to stay @ Otto & Fanny's in Fiji on our 90 day trip and CAN'T WAIT to get a picture of that view on Phi Phi island you've captured. Hi there! Now we are back in reality again looking for jobs. It is not as nice and warm here in Sweden as it was on Phi Phi, life was so relaxed there - just like being in paradise. It is fun to see all your photos, they are really good! After Phi Phi we went to Railey (no climbing though), but we did not find your friend Jonathan. We are so jealous of you - still out there exploring the world! We miss the travelling and are already thinking of going again. Why work when you can travel?! Enjoy the rest of your trip!! Regards from the two Swedish climbers

Hi from Canada. Stumbled across your web site by accident - but glad I did - you have done a super job of it. Life is about living, and it sure sounds to me like you are doing it right. As old Abe Lincoln said "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years"
Keep travelling, stay healthy, and who knows - one day we may even bump into each other in some exotic location!
Cheers

I am Jorge and Cathy Silveira's sponsor lieutenant from West Point. I am
just about to embark on a much shorter 8 week round the world tour. I saw you
were on your way to Thailand and maybe through Malaysia. I was there over the
Christmas break from school. Here are a couple things to think about. There is a
hotel in Bangkok locally known as the Ratana Cosin (sp?). It has enormous rooms
really cheap and one of the only 24 hour safe cafes in the city. It is
historically important as the site of a bloody student riot in 1992 or some such
year. All the temples in Bangkok were great and the Vianamek (sp?) Palace is
really fun to see. Don't bother seeing King Bumbidol's Photograph Museum, unless
you want a laugh. If you make it to Chiang Mai, take a cab up to the mountain
temple and make sure you were long pants. The royal winter palace is alright,
but you can't go in the buildings. For southern Thailand, we went to Ko Samui,
and Ko Taoh (sp?). Ko Samui is way too commericialized and the diving isn't
nearly as spectacular as Ko Taoh. We stayed in Ko Taoh for a week and it really
is the closest place I've seen to Paradise. You can get a spartan bungalow right
on the beach. Planet Scuba is a great company and can arrange a PADI course with
lodging for under $200!! This might be the time of year when the whale sharks
migrate past the islands. In Malaysia, we hated Penang altogether. We went to
another island off the West Coast called Pangkor Island. It had lots of great
hikes, deserted beaches, and surprising internet cafe's with pirated movies.
Inland, Ipoh is usually not on any tourist's itinerary, but if you can hire a
cab for a trip to the caves- they are spectacular. Apparently, Malaysian
Communists holed up there for 40 years after WWII. If you call in advance, you
can arrange to do some cool spelunking. I hope some of this helps on your trip.
If by any chance you pass through London, please write. I am at Oxford and I can
give you a insider's tour. Best wishes, Craig

Lon looks pretty happy next to the X-Ray of his broken arm! I bet he is
looking forward to Martha dressing and undressing him everyday since his arm is
out of commission for a while!

Really had a great time at Nubula Lodge and enjoyed your photos and
descriptions of the place. I am back home and saving hard for another big
adventure somewhere. It all seems like a life-time ago already. Enjoy it all.

Well it looks like you two are having a wonderful trip. There are many
places that I have always wanted to see and through your pictures is great! I
try to catch up on your trip during lunch and most of the group you worked with
Lon are always checking along with me. I hope you enjoy the rest as much as you
have so far.

What a trip! I have just been catching up with your adventures. The bit on
the glacier was pretty amazing. I have seen this stuff about people walking over
the ladders with an endless drop below them. But, you actually did it! Thanks
for sharing your adventure with the rest of us. You are building memories at a
pretty amazing rate.

Wow! I just spent the last 3 hours catching up on all of the fun that you
two are having. It's been like a mini-vacation for me (and I didn't have to
hike, camp or give up hot showers). I love the photos--I can't wait to see more.

Having a blast reading the web page. You could make this into a book when
you're done (if that day is ever to come). Thanks for the chance to remember /
relive old haunts and adventure spots. I get tossed between vicarious joy, warm
fuzzy unexpected memories, and haunting melancholy as I browse! Glad you are
taking the time to share it all. Enjoy the adventure. Enjoy the challenges.
Enjoy life.

Lon/ Martha: I'm in Chicago for a couple days and have the advantage of a
fast internet connection so I will finally have the time to browse your site a
little bit. I don't know about you guys but I am having the time of my life on
my adventure -- I bet you are too. I would love to compare some notes with you
when you finally return to the real world (tongue in cheek). My first two weeks
were almost like a retreat -- I think because I'm traveling alone. I had so much
time to be introspective and contemplative. I was going to say, I hope all is
well -- but my experience has taught me that doesn't matter. I hope that you
cope well with whatever gets thrown at you and you have a great time doing it.
Cheers! Tom
