We didn't like Queenstown enough to stay more than 1 night.
Wanaka was more "our" kind of place. It's a small town on the edge of a large lake, surrounded by snow-topped mountains. The winery for our favorite New Zealand wine (Rippon - pinot noir) is located right in Wanaka. Unfortunately, they were closed to the public while we were there (harvest time).
Lon found a new favorite coffee shop - Kai Whaka Pai. They had excellent food (homemade breads, pies, pastries, savory soups, exotic juices, etc.). It was a great place to kick-back, have a bite to eat, and enjoy the view of the lake and mountains.
We met another couple from La Jolla, Marie and Barry. They have been on
the road for almost 2 years now...except they are travelling with their 2
boys (a 4 year old and an 8 year old) . It really is true...this world is
getting a lot smaller!
This is a photo of Marie & Barry with Lon in the common room of the Wanaka Bakapa.
