Pokhara is a pretty
city with a beautiful lake and gorgeous views of the Annapurna mountains.
The air is cleaner than in Kathmandu and the pace is much slower. However, you still see those
snake charmers! We came here
before starting the Annapurna circuit to buy all our gear for the trek ...and
enjoy a few days of comfort. Things were very cheap here - as far
as equipment goes. We bought all our gear (sleeping bags, coats, etc.) for
well under $100.00 U.S.. We ended up donating most of it to an organization
for porters afterwards.
Pokhara is also where most trekkers go after they finish the Annapurna
circuit. We arrived in Pokhara around mid-day after our trek. The ONE thing
I was looking forward to most was a hot shower! I almost turned into a
screaming lunatic when our hotel didn't have hot water upon our arrival. I
could not bring myself to take another cold shower. Lon calmed me down by
taking me to a really cute garden restaurant for lunch. There were two rabbits in the yard ...after petting them,
I was much calmer. Good karma must have been with us, because when we got
back to the hotel, there was hot water!
