We drove to
Heerenveen, Netherlands (Holland, for us ignorant folk) and visited Elly and
Richard. We met Elly and
Richard 14 months ago in Fiji (at the start of our trip). They had lost
their tans, but we still recognized them! It was neat to see them again in
their homeland. We spent 2 days touring around the flat lands, dykes, and small villages of that area. Of
course, there were lots of canals! And, Richard is still
playing volleyball
...just not on the beach!
It had been 7 months since Richard and Elly had returned from their RTW
trip, so we spent a lot of time comparing notes and photos. They had given
us the suggestion for the Australian Outback trip (which was the highlight of
our time in Australia). Maybe they'll be doing an African Overland trip in
the future??? Thanks again for a great visit!
We drove to Amsterdam ...with a few stops along the way - a huge dyke and in Volendam. We arrived in
Amsterdam a bit late in the day, so we spent the next day touring all over Amsterdam on bicycle. We
visited the Rijks musuem ...had to see Rembrandt's The Night Watch. It turned
out that our hotel was right in the middle of the red light district (we
booked at a tourist office). The most entertaining part of the red light
district was watching the men "window shop "!
It was a quick tour through Holland, but we well worth the car trip!
