Lovina is a group of small towns along the
northern coastline. The beaches have black, volcanic sand and the views are
very pretty - the green mountains on one side, and the sun setting into the
ocean on the other. Unfortunately, the water is bit too dirty to swim in
...so we swam in the gorgeous pool in
our hotel. We stayed in the Nirwana Beach Cottages Resort.
The resort was BEAUTIFUL! Plumeria and bungavilla flowers were everywhere ...they added
so much color and scented the air. We really felt like we were "on vacation".
It's really true that you can live like a KING in Bali for very little ...our room was only around
$10.00 U.S.. For once, we can say that we really are millionaires ...in
rupiahs anyway.
It's very common in Bali to show movies for free at restaurants. We were
surprised to find one restaurant showing a boot-leg DVD copy of the recently
released Planet of the Apes. It's really true about copy right
infringements here in South East Asia.
We found Lovina to be very scenic, but very touristy. There were a lot of
weird characters ... looks like a lot of westerners live here. Lon and I
aren't sure if they were weird to begin with, or if they got that way after
living here. We saw one man who (I swear to God) looked exactly
like Popeye the sailor man ...the only thing missing was the corn cob
pipe.
