Gods of Wiñet

Theology on Wiñet is deep and very complex. Luckily most of this depth and complexity is only known to a small number of high-ranking clerics. The average man on the street is therefore not burdened by inherently confusing, leap-of-faith requiring, mystic contradictions that accompanies close familiarity with the minds of the gods (as well as the odiously convoluted ceremonies and rituals such knowledge demands).

Most people go about their daily lives secure in the simple knowledge of a small cleanly defied set of deities to which they pray and in whose names they weave colorful curses.

The priests devoted to the various faiths of Wiñet are capable of performing mystical acts that bear a striking resemblance to magic. In this case, the method employed is prayer rather than incantation and effect is generated by godly intervention rather than from the manipulation of mana. A subtle but important difference.

A’Amiral

There is one god and its name is A’amiral.A’amiral has twelve distinct personalities each of which attains dominance during certain parts of a two year cycle based on the positions of the sun, several, major constellations and Midkemia’s two moons. Most lay person see these “Faces” as individual god’s.More “knowledgeable” members of the clergy know better.

Pragmatic Things:

In terms of game playing, Wiñetian Mystical Arts are performed according to the standard GURPS rules with the following provisos:

Piety

The god(s) reward priests for doing things congruent with the precepts of their faith and punish them for straying outside those precepts. In the context of performing mystical arts, this means they more readily grant boons persons who exemplify the “true” faith and turn a deaf ear to those who don’t.

For the game this is represented by a modifier to spell casting called PIETY. It is determined as follows.

Pronunciation

Phonetics...
Ä, ä = far
A, a = apple

É, é = pay
È, è = let

Ï, ï = pig

Ö, ö = bought
Ô, ô = bow

Ü, ü = putt
Û, û = loose

Diphthongs ( oi, ai, ew, ) are pronounced as are their English counterparts.

' (apostrophe) at the beginning of a word is pronounced as a soft "h".

This isn't perfect Greek pronunciation, but it IS perfect Wiñetian.
